First Impression: Disney Infinity 3.0

Disney Infinity 3.0 launched on Sunday and we couldn't be more excited! We couldn't wait to add Star Wars characters, themes, and vehicles to the ever expanding universe that is the Toy Box. After D23, we had some more ideas of what the came would contain, as well as a sneak peek at some fun items that would be joining the game.

These are just some first impressions of the game, as we've only scratched the surface. At this point, it's worth mentioning that one of our favorite aspects of the game is the inclusion of nostalgia inducing toys. So, without further ado, here's some of our first impressions!

  1. The Introduction made us smile wider than a kowakian monkey lizard! It was a perfect blend of the new and the classic. Seeing the classic trilogy Star Wars characters come together felt like Christmas . . . and now they can be played with our favorite Marvel and Disney characters. Yoda and Stitch team-up is a go!
  2. So many new toys! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (which comes with a goat) is not a static set piece. It has falling dust that helps make for a more dynamic world-creating and playing experience. Gravity Falls has a lot more toys, too! Can't wait to add a Gobble Wonker to a world!
  3. The expansion of town sets. Halloweentown can now become an actual town. Including pieces like Finkelstein's Lab, Jack's House, some gates, and other exciting buildings. Sugar Rush ca also be expanded to fill up your Toy Box with sweet treats.
  4. Characters are amazing. Besides having beautiful sculpts, the few we played play well and fit perfectly into the universe. We're so happy to see Yoda be a nice mesh between classic Yoda and Clone wars Yoda. Let him sit for moment, you'll see.
  5.  Vehicles - this is one of the best improvements. Many of the vehicle power discs have music upgrades. This is a small detail, but an important one. Some of the music was just bland and did not fit thematically with the piece. Now when you play Darkwing Duck's Ratcatchter, you get to hear the Darkwing Duck theme song! The Electric Mayhem bus has it's music back, which for some reason was lost in DI2.0. We highly encourage you to try all of your vehicles, as the music changes make for a more fun gaming experience.
  6. The Boom Box now includes an amazing set list. We get most of the music from DI2.0 plus some fantastic new ones. I'm very happy to see that The Electric Mayhem Bus music can now be selected (so glad the Muppets are still being included in some small way!). You can now add a bunch of new classic John Williams scores to your Star Wars Toy Boxes. I can't wait to make a Dagobah themed toy box with Yoda's Theme.
  7. Star Wars themes and new Disney themes for the Toy Box. The inclusion of such classic art from Sleeping Beauty is wonderful. We love playing with the sky and terrain themes!
  8. Packs and Tools has some new items, too. Our favorite by far is the Ewok Glider! We've never been a fan of the glider pack, but now I think it's safe to say that this pack will always be on our characters! It's one of those fun fan items that make the care and love that is put into every game shine and take the limelight. It reminds us why we're fans and why we love the game!

Those are just a few of the things that we love about the game so far! Check back as we put up more impressions of the game, like Toy Box Takeover, Twilight of the Republic playset, characters, and more!

We see lots of familiar faces from the Clone Wars series such as Cade Bane and Padme Amidala, along with General Grevious and Jabba the Hutt. WE also get our first look at Yoda, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka working together to defeat Darth Maul (who should technically have his robotic legs). So . . .This Happened This Week

So, These Things Happened This Week

Miss Piggy Receives Award
This past week, Miss Piggy accepted a First Award from the Elizabeth A. Sackler center for Feminist Art. She made a short acceptance speech at the Brooklyn Museum, along with Kermit the Frog. The Sackler Center said on its website that it was honoring "performer, actor, writer, and icon Miss Piggy, for more than 40 years of blazing feminist trails with determination and humor." She certainly deserves it! Way to go, Piggy!

When the award was announced at the end of April, Miss Piggy was credited with saying "Moi is thrilled but frankly, not surprised to be receiving this Sackler Center First Award. It is truly wonderful to be celebrated and share this honor with fellow legends, role models and pioneers of female fabulosity."

Teaser for The Good Dinosaur
Disney-Pixar released the teaser trailer for The Good Dinosaur, a production troubled little film. The teaser doesn't really show much, hence teaser, and I'm not sure how excited we are, but it's a fun little trailer that shows us some of the visuals and the main idea behind the film - What if the dinosaurs didn't go extinct?

Tangled to Series
Disney Channel announced that Tangled will be coming to series. The series will include most of the original voice cast and Alan Menken and Glenn Slater returning to do songs. It's pretty darn awesome that the series will be from most of the original folks who made the film. The series will take place between the events of Tangled and Tangled Ever After

Hot Toys releases images of Scarlet Witch
Hot Toys continues to produce the best collectible action figures around. Scarlet Witch is no exception. This beautifully sculpted figure captures the likeness perfectly and comes with a ton of accessories. Now we just need to see Quicksilver!

Yoda in Disney Infinity
An article from USA Today has an interview with Jeff Bunker, studio art director at Avalanche/Disney Interactive Studios and the man in charge of the distinct visual look of everything Infinity. Personally, I wish they had gone with more of the classic Yoda look. But we still can't wait to play with him in the toy Box!!!

More Disney Infinity 3.0 Pictures

Disney Infinity 3.0 continues to grow bigger and bigger with more news and pictures. Check out these exclusive pictures from gameinformer.com featuring many of the new characters, including classic Star Wars and Disney. No new Marvel heroes here but we are hoping that The Vision, Scarlet Witch, Daredevil, and Ant-Man will be added to the list since they have been announced for Captain America: Civil War.

Also, Disney Infinity has released these statements about the playabilty of Mickey and Minnie:

Mickey Mouse is a playful adventurer who always wins the day with imagination and heroic feats. In times of need, he calls upon his friends including Pluto, Goofy, and Oswald to help defeat his enemies. He also has some pretty cool boxing moves! The design took special care to make sure that this classic version of Mickey, wearing his well-known red pants, is unique from the wand-wielding, broom-sweeping Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey that was released in previous installments of Disney Infinity. From his powers and abilities to his dialogue, he plays completely differently!

Minnie Mouse dazzles and charms her way through every adventure. Minnie never leaves home without her purse – not only does it hold her lipstick, it is also used for special attacks!

Does that mean we will never see Goofy as a playable character? Seems like a bad decision when we have Donald, Mickey, and now Minnie Mouse as playable characters. While I am glad Mickey will play differently than Sorcerer Mickey, it would have been nice to see the original crew back together in the game.

Enjoy the pictures below and we'll keep you updated as the news breaks!

Disney Infinity 3.0 STAR WARS CONFIRMED!

We have confirmation via Game Informer that Disney Infinity 3.0 will present STAR WARS. The cover below highlights many of the famous characters included in the game: Yoda, Vader, Ahsoka, Leia Organa, Chewbacca, Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Han Solo. Due out fall of this year, Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars will bring Marvel, Disney, and the galaxy far, far, away, together at last! A look below and you'll also see the Hulkbuster, Mulan, Sam Flynn and Quorra,  and Classic Mickey. We are so excited here at Muppets, Monsters, and Magic we might just pass out from a force choke hold.

"The game will try to cater to all Star Wars fans by offering a variety of content packs, featuring a variety of character going on different adventures telling stories set in different eras of the Star Wars saga. Separate packs will be developed by different teams in order to showcase what each individual studio does best within the Star Wars universe.

Ninja Theory’s “Twilight of the Republic” will follow Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano as they investigate who is behind a newly built droid army. The story is set after Attack of the Clones, and features a lot of melee combat. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Darth Maul can be added to the adventure via separately sold figures.

Studio Gobo’s “Rise Against the Empire” allows players to play though classic moments from the original Star Wars Trilogy, including the Battle of Yavin, and spend some time on Hoth and Tatooine. The story primarily features Luke and Leia going up against Darth Vader, but Chewbacca, Han Solo, and a playable Darth Vader can be added through figures sold separately.

A third playset, based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is planned for release this winter." via Gameinformer

Disney Infinity 3.0 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, iOS, and Android this fall.
