Godzilla Maquette - Sideshow Toy

Last year we saw the triumphant return of the King of the Monsters. Godzilla was a huge box office success and another film is on its way in 2017. But for now, Sideshow Toy has been kind enough to give fans the incredible Godzilla Maquette. Standing 24” tall, this maquette is beautiful. Featuring a destroyed city beneath his feet and dynamically posed in a roaring position, this statue truly is a work of art. Every detail is expertly sculpted, from the number of fins on his back to the teeth in his mouth. It looks like a matte paint was used to give him an ancient and weathered look. We are excited for this and cannot wait to set it up! Luckily there is a set-up video, so enjoy!

MCU Spider-Man Revealed!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow, especially with Civil War on the horizon. Marvel and Sony Pictures announced who will play the famous web-slinger and who will direct!

Tom Holland has been cast as Peter Parker and Jon Watts will direct. We're excited about this new Spider-Man, as it will be great to see Spidey return to his high school roots. Now, who will we have as a villain?

Here's what Marvel announced:

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are proud to announce that after a full worldwide casting search, Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017. The film will be directed by Jon Watts, director of "Cop Car," the upcoming thriller that made its debut earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.

Marvel and Sony Pictures, and producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal conducted an extensive search for both the actor and the director. The studios and producers were impressed by Holland’s performances in "The Impossible," “Wolf Hall,” and the upcoming "In the Heart of the Sea," and by a series of complex screen tests. Following Marvel’s tradition of working with the brightest next wave of directors, Watts also went through multiple meetings with Feige, Pascal, and the studio, before winning the job.

Commenting on the announcement, Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman, said, “It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding. I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”

Feige commented, “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life. We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.”

Pascal added, “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Sony Pictures will finance and release worldwide the next installment of the $4 billion Spider-Man franchise on July 28, 2017, in a film co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the Web-Slinger.

Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

Review: Inside Out

Review: Inside Out

Inside Out is the latest film from Disney*Pixar. They have taken us to so many wonderful places and told amazing stories. This time they take us inside the mind of an eleven year old girl who is is moving from one stage of her life into the next, and has to deal with a ton of emotional baggage. That's where this movie really shines.

Meet the voices inside your head: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. They reside in the
headquarters (pun intended, I'm sure) and help to form your responses to everyday occurrences. Imagine you see broken glass on the ground. That's where Fear might take the controls to help you stay safe. Broccoli? Disgusting, right? You don't get the toy you want at the store? Anger takes the controls and lights a fire under you! All of them work together to make you.

What makes this movie so interesting and fun is the visual representation of the mind and your personality. What makes you you. We all have different personalities and coping mechanisms. What emotion is driving us? Is it fear? Anger? Joy? What aspects of our lives form our personalities? For Riley, we get to see her Five Islands of Personality. The five things that make her who she is. Each one helps us understand who she is. We dive even deeper into her mind and explore what happens to memories, where imagination lives, and what resides in our subconscious.

The title of the movie really implies how the movie is set-up. We see Riley and who is she is not so much by her actions in the film, but by how she comes to those actions before she carries them out. We get to know the main character from the inside out. Instead of her just making a disgusted face to her parents, we see how she comes to make that face. We know all of her actions before she is even going to do them, thanks to her emotions. It's a very different way to experience a film.

I thought Anger was the strongest character in the film. Not only was he animated superbly with over-the-top expressions and actions, but he was really developed into a full character with his own emotional story arc. He also leads us to a critical moment in Riley's life, one he later comes to regret. Fear is visually wonderful and has a great scene when he is watching Riley's dream. Disgust was kind of along for the ride, but didn't really speak to me as a character. Joy and Sadness, who form the core story of the film, work really well together. And, as we find out, are inseparable. We also get to meet Bing Bong, Riley's imaginary friend (voiced by Richard Kind), and some other fun characters. But I don't want to spoil it for you!

I think the greatest thing about this movie is the sense of introspection you are left with after the film ends. Suddenly, you are aware of what drives you. What pushes you forward. How you react to situations. Maybe it'll make better humans of us all. After all, look at what happens when Anger gives us ideas . . .

Final Thoughts:
Inside Out is a must-see film. It is visually splendid, moves along at a good pace, and takes us to places we've never been before. Listen carefully for a nod to a Disney Parks attraction. The humor is wonderful. It let's us laugh together as an audience and at ourselves. Most of all, it will leave you a little wiser and perhaps give you some perspective.

Star Wars Power Discs Disney Infinity 3.0

As E3 continues, Disney Infinity releases more information. Today we have new Star Wars power discs! Some nice costume swaps are present along with the addition of some great vehicles. I would have thought Anakin would have had Tatooine as the sky and terrain but it pulls from the new trilogy.

Disney Infinity 3.0 family continues to grow as Disney Interactive announces the Rise Against the Empire Play Set and Star Wars Rebels characters. Boba Fett joins Disney Infinity

During Sony’s E3 2015 press conference Monday evening, Disney Interactive and Lucasfilm announced that Boba Fett, the most famous Bounty Hunter and fan favorite, will be joining Disney Infinity 3.0 in an exclusive starter park. Disney Infinity 2.0 did the same with The Hulk being an exclusive. The Star Wars Saga Starter Pack will only be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 through the holiday season. As an Xbox owner I can't help but feel this is another bogus move by Disney Interactive. So far Xbox owners have had no exclusives. We missed out on the Avengers and Frost Giant display, Black Suit Spider-Man, early Hulk, and now Boba Fett and the Rise Against the Empire Set. Quickly I am becoming disenchanted with a game that rewards Playstation owners and not all consoles.

Buying the Saga starter pack will allow users early access to purchase the Star Wars Rise Against the Empire play set announced last week. Boba Fett will be playable across the entire Star Wars play set collection.
