Captain America - The First Avenger comes to Disney Infinity!

Disney announced today that Captain America - The First Avenger will be released in March 2016 for Disney Infinity. The figure is quite impressive - new detailed costume, new pose, and new powers!

It's likely that this figure is intended to tie-in Captain America: Civil War. Both the figure and the movie will be released in March 2016.

They also announced Marvel Battleground Playset details, and here they are:

Today, Disney Interactive revealed details for Marvel Battlegrounds, the upcoming Play Set for Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition, featuring a new four-player, arcade brawler style of gameplay, and an original Marvel storyline. Developed by United Front Games, in partnership with Avalanche Software, Marvel Battlegrounds is the first Disney Infinity Play Set to feature four-player gameplay. With full compatibility for all Disney Infinity Marvel characters, Marvel Battlegrounds features the widest selection of playable characters of any previous Play Set.

“With Disney Infinity 3.0, we’ve aimed to provide a wider variety of gameplay than ever before, and the Marvel Battlegrounds Play Set represents our commitment to developing something entirely new for our players,” said John Blackburn, SVP & GM of Disney Infinity. “The four-player arena style combat gameplay is a perfect way for friends and families to come together and play in head-to-head battles with some of their favorite Marvel characters.”

Launching in March 2016, Marvel Battlegrounds will feature Hulkbuster, Ultron and Captain America – The First Avenger, a new version of Captain America with a new pose, costume and enhanced abilities.  Additional Marvel Battlegrounds figures will be announced in the coming months. All Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) Marvel figures will be playable in the Play Set and will feature adapted abilities and skills to complement the new style of gameplay of Marvel Battlegrounds.

“We worked closely with the Disney Infinity development team to come up with new gameplay and storyline for Marvel Battlegrounds that is unique to the platform,” said Jay Ong, VP of Games, Marvel Entertainment. “We’ve created an authentic Marvel story that will give players the freedom to choose any Marvel figure in Disney Infinity and have them face off against each other in an arena style combat.”

In the original storyline, Ultron teams up with Loki in an effort to steal Asgard’s immensely powerful Infinity Stone. To accomplish this, Ultron and Loki create robotic replicas of the famed Marvel Super Heroes and turn them against each other in an effort to distract them while they commit their crime. The Marvel Super Heroes duplicates battle each other in iconic environments such as a wrecked Brooklyn train yard, Wakanda and S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Lunar Base, culminating in a universe-shaking battle against Ultron.

 
Fans can get a more in-depth look at the Play Set during the Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition: Facing Off in Marvel’s Battlegrounds panel at New York Comic-Con, featuring participants from Disney Interactive, Avalanche Software, United Front Games and Marvel Games. New York Comic-Con attendees can attend the panel on Saturday, October 10 from 4:00 – 4:45 p.m. at Empire Stage 1-E and will receive an exclusive pre-release figure giveaway. Marvel gets a-DORBZ-able!

As you may have guessed, we here at Muppets, Monsters, and Magic love Funko items. From Pop! figures to collecting the Hikari vinyl figures, we can't get enough. Now, Funko introduces the incredibly cute and aptly named Dorbz line of figures. Standing about 3 inches tall and displayed in a double-window box, Dorbz are the most adorable figures you will find. An adorable smile and closed eyes emulate the pure expression of happiness on these Marvel figures. Take a look below for the series one release.

If you received your Marvel Collector's Corps. box for April, you know that Ultron was the exclusive.  As one of my favorite villians, I have to say he's a little tiny tin terror you can love!

New Marvel and Disney Character List

It looks as if Disney Infinity 3.0 has given away how many new characters will be available for the Disney Originals collection and the Marvel Super Heroes collection. 

There are ten additional spaces on the Disney Originals list. If we count up the new characters that have been announced: Mulan, Mikey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Sam Flynn, Quorra, Joy, Anger, Disgust, Sadness, and Fear. We come to the conclusion that this will be all the Disney Originals for 3.0.

As for the Marvel Super Heroes roster we only know of Hulkbuster and Ultron officially. Logically, we guess that Scarlet Witch, The Vision, and hopefully Ant-Man will be the other three characters yet to be announced. This would make sense since those three characters become the New Avengers and will move forward with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Age of Ultron

The biggest blockbuster of the year just came out so you can bet you'll be able to play in that Marvel Universe! Ultron and Hulkbuster are confirmed figures! Maybe Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be announced, too.

Review: The Avengers: Age of Ultron

The Avengers assemble once again in Age of Ultron. This time the Avengers must face their ultimate villain in the form of Ultron, an artificial intelligence bent on saving/destroying the human race. With more characters, more special effects, and more surprising than the first, Age of Ultron lives up to the expectations it has set for itself.

To begin, we had some really incredible trailers: Jurassic World, Ant-Man, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Age of Ultron explodes on the screen the moment the film starts.  The story begins exactly where it should, in the middle of the action, introducing the new players, and bringing all the Avengers together for a spectacular fight scene. I won’t go into any details because I, for one, do not enjoy spoilers. As you already know, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are in the movie and we see them straight from the get-go. No waiting, quick history, and I have enough to know that these are characters I care about. However, they are never mentioned by the aforementioned names, but are referred to as The Twins through most of the movie. The Twins are a nice counter to the Avengers and added to the movie, rather than fill it with unnecessary characters.

Of course we have Ultron, the main protagonist, who is new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Big, bad, and chrome-plated. Ultron has a very subtle and haunting introduction during one of the funniest and fun scenes in the movie. We see old and new characters having fun, then Ultron crashes the party. Ultron is quick, single minded, and has a lot of character. However, I felt we didn’t get enough screen time with the ultimate villain to truly understand him. I always took Ultron as a very tragic figure, and he was, but we needed to be told that by all the other characters, Ultron did not show us that.

Humor was on par with the first Avengers and really shown in this movie as the characters play so well off each other. You can tell the actors had fun on this movie. Always placed at the right moment, the humor never over shadowed the seriousness of certain scenes.

I’ll leave The Vision alone, you’ll just have to see the movie. 

The movie offered plenty of surprises, humor, and wit to match The Avengers. At times the story was a little rushed and convoluted. But there was a  lot going on and a ton of characters to juggle.  We also have nods to the Infinity Stones, which everyone now knows is what the MCU is leading up to. Some things were left unexplained, but I’m okay with that because I really don’t need to know what happened. Because of the pace, the movie is relentless. We only have one very calm and serene moment with Hawkeye, which was very Joss Whedon-esque and really brought the movie back to the ground. The Avengers are real people, doing real things, really dangerous things, and aren’t invincible. The theme of “What is a monster” is challenged time and time again in the movie, with almost every character giving their own answer to the question Ultron has posed. The major issue with Age of Ultron is so much in so little time. I would have liked to have seen another half hour to really fill in the gaps. The original Avengers had all the previous movies to set-up all the characters, including the villian, Loki, Age of Ultron introduces 4 new characters and only has 141 minutes to explain them plus the plot. they did a good job, but a little extra time would have been nice.

The movie was great! It had everything I wanted from The Avengers and more. Surprises are in store, action is abound, and the characters were true to themselves. We are being ushered into a new age for the MCU and Ultron had lead us there.

Ultron-athon on DisneyXD

Last night, DisneyXD had their Marvel's Avengers Assemble Ultron-athon. As you might have guessed, it was all about Ultron. The story arc in the episodes featured the break-up of the Avengers, the inclusion of Spider-Man, and the return of Ant-Man.

If you missed the Ultron-athon last night, you can tune in on Sunday morning on DisneyXD to experience if for the first time or again!

The marathon included 4 episodes:

S2: Episode 40 "Crack in the System"
Ultron takes control of Arsenal and Iron Man works to destroy him with malware. But Stark is keeping secrets from his team, leading to the loss of an Avenger.

S2: Episode 41 "Avengers Disassembled"
Super-Adaptoid, now controlled by Ultron, attacks a tech company called Roxxon and the Avengers, with the help of Spider-Man, arrive to stop him. Starks secrets get in the way again, leading to distrust amongst the team, ultimately concluding with the break-up of the Avengers. 

S2: Episode 42 "Small Time Heroes"
AIM steals Pym particles from Ant-Man so that M.O.D.O.K can avoid his cybernetics being taken over by Ultron. Ant-Man lends a hand as Starks inability to lead a team becomes more apparent.

S2: Episode 43 "The Ultron Outbreak"
Ultron returns, but this time he is turning humans into Ultron Sentinels with a nano-virus. Iron Man's team and Captain America's team join forces with Ant-Man to stop Ultron before he infects the world. The Avengers Assemble once more . . . with a welcome addition.

It was great to see these four episodes back to back. It was especially nice to see Spider-Man and Ant-Man play larger roles, or at least laying the foundation of what looks like a lead-in to Civil War storylines. Even M.O.D.O.K had a nice return to the show. What was important about these episodes though was the disagreement between Captain America and Iron Man and the idea of heroes.

Age of Ultron POP! figures

The good people at Funko have given us another reason to cheer! This time for Age of Ultron Bobble Figures. Not only do we get to see Ultron in adorable form, but we get a glimpse of the Vision in all of his glory as well. What do you think? Will these Avengers assemble in your collection?
